New Job   2008.08.02, 8:32 pm  |  Work
Previous Post: Hello World!   |   Next Post: Biodegradable Cigarette Filters

As of about two weeks ago, I started working in a new capacity at work as member of the “Enterprise Application Integration” group. The new job involves making use of an enterprise service bus (ESB) to perform data transformations and workflow processing (amongst other things), essentially acting as a middle-man to allow applications to exchange information more easily.

There are all kinds of interesting bits that take place behind the scenes to enable that sort of utility, and I’m looking forward to digging in to those. That’s a little ways off at this point though - there’s training to take and projects from the previous job to finish up with first.

As such, the most immediate impact of the new job is the change of locale: rather than working in an isolated, fenced-in building with around 40 other people, I’m now downtown in a building with closer to 400 people. I’m also now right next to the lake, and have fallen in to a pattern of joining a couple coworkers for a quick lunch and a walk along the boardwalk on a pretty regular basis. So I’m meeting all sorts of new people, are my legs getting more exercise, and my farmer’s tan is well on its way to becoming permanent. ;-)

This also means I’m now on cubicle 3.0. The final configuration of 2.0 was hastily documented and can be seen here.

As you can see, compared to earlier incarnations this most-recent cube ended up being about as generic as can be. So, if anyone has any “theme” suggestions for the new cube, please feel free to pass them along.
